Tideswell, situated in the heart of the glorious Peak District is an ancient Market Town with a Charter dating from 1251. The Church of St John the Baptist is known as "The Cathedral of the Peak" and houses some beautiful stained glass and wood carvings in particular the Choir Stalls. Tideswell is a good central location for visiting "The Peak". It is equidistant from Buxton and Bakewell which provide shopping opportunities and both have lively weekly markets to explore. There are many places of interest to visit locally such as Chatsworth House with its myriad of beautiful rooms to wander through and enchanting gardens to enjoy. Haddon Hall is also within a few minutes drive with its glorious rose gardens and romantic setting it provided the perfect backdrop for the recent BBC adaptation of Jane Eyre. At Castleton there is the castle and the infamous "Devil's Arse" caverns to visit or take a trip down a Blue John mine. Closer still is the plague village of Eyam with its fascinating history of survival. Eyam Hall is a lovely example of a grand family home and also has a delightful selection of arts and crafts outlets within the courtyard for you to pick up a souvenier even create your own at The Painted Plate! There is much good walking, climbing and other outdoor activities at hand and Tideswell has a choice of village pubs providing a variety of options for evening meals and a relaxing drink after a full day!
